To the N.C. Office on the Americans with Disabilities Act
The North Carolina Office on the
Americans with Disabilities Act was created by the N.C. General Assembly
in 1994 to provide consultative services to state and local governments,
business and industry in complying with the Americans with Disabilities
Act (ADA) of 1990.
The office is promoting compliance with the ADA
through training, technical assistance and the establishment of an alternative
dispute resolution process.
The office also:

Serves as an ADA resource center to disseminate accurate
and relevant information to government, business, professionals and consumers;

Serves as a resource to the Office of the Governor, the Department
of Administration, the State ADA Interagency Coordinating Council and the
Legislature;

Assists state government departments in updating, strengthening
and enhancing the scope of self-evaluation and transition plans to ensure
continuous compliance with the ADA mandate;

Assists local governments in their continuing efforts to
comply with the ADA; and

Increases the visibility of the ADA in order to help more
citizens understand the letter and the spirit of the law.
The North Carolina Office on the Americans with Disabilities
Act, headquartered downtown Raleigh in the Howell House, 111 E. North Street,
is headed by Larry C. Jones, Coordinator.
