What’s Public About Your
Personnel Information?
Changes Occurring October 1
The Legislature recently passed changes to the statute [GS 126-23 (a)] that control what information about State employees is public information. That change, which is effective October 1, 2010, makes these items of information public record:
- Your salary history with the State of North Carolina.
- The date and kind of these personnel transactions - promotion, demotion, transfer, suspension, separation or change in position classification - with the State of North Carolina.
- The general reason for any promotion you have achieved with the State of North Carolina.
The changes to the law also make, for the first time, dismissal letters public information.
