What’s Public About Your
Personnel Information?

Changes Occurring October 1

The Legislature recently passed changes to the statute [GS 126-23 (a)] that control what information about State employees is public information. That change, which is effective October 1, 2010, makes these items of information public record:

  1. Your salary history with the State of North Carolina.
  2. The date and kind of these personnel transactions - promotion, demotion, transfer, suspension, separation or change in position classification - with the State of North Carolina.
  3. The general reason for any promotion you have achieved with the State of North Carolina.

The changes to the law also make, for the first time, dismissal letters public information.

If you have questions about these changes, please contact your agency Human Resources office.
