Health Insurance

State Health Plan site

A statewide group plan, which covers hospital and medical expenses, is available to employees at no additional cost.  Family and dependent coverage is available at the employee's expense. 


Flexible Benefits


NC Flex offers seven voluntary benefits (pre-tax):
  • Health Care Flexible Spending Account
  • Dependent Day Care Flexible Spending Account
  • Vision Care Plan
  • Voluntary Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance
  • Traditional/Managed Care Dental Coverage.
  • Cancer Insurance
  • Group Term Life

To participate in NCFlex, you must work 20 or more hours per week in a permanent, probationary or time-limited position.


 
Long Term Care

Voluntary Shared Leave

A long-term care plan is optional. To be eligible for enrollment, the enrollee must be one of the following and between the ages of 18 and  85:
  • Active Teacher
  • Active State Employee
  • Retired Teacher
  • Retired State Employee
  • Local Government Retiree
Related to one of the above in the following way:
  • Spouse
  • Child
  • Parent
  • Parent-in-law
  • Grandparent
  • Grandparent-in-law
  • Son-in-law
  • Daughter-in-law

 

Workers' Compensation

The State pays for on-the-job injury or job connected illness or death through Workers' Compensation



Disability Income Plan 

Policy (see pages 3 and 4)

Employees are eligible after one year of state service for short term disability; they are eligible for long-term disability after five years of service

Office of State Personnel maintains a centralized Unemployment Insurance Cost Management Program to provide effective claims administration and control of benefit costs. 

 


State Employees' Assistance Resource and Provider Directory

Resource site

The State Employees' Assistance Program is a confidential service of North Carolina State Government designed to assist state government employees and their immediate family members resolve personal problems before they disrupt personal or work life.  The service is provided at no charge to the employee.
