The Online Trainer (Online Course)

Target Audience: Trainers and instructional designers interested in developing skills in creating, facilitating and supporting online training. BE an online learner while learning to provide online training!

NOTE: BECAUSE THIS COURSE IS PROVIDED ENTIRELY ONLINE IT IS ‘BORDERLESS’. IT IS THEREFORE AVAILABLE NATIONALLY TO ANY GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEE.

Description: How does it work? This is NOT just a Webinar! “The Online Trainer” is structured like a college-level academic course. Lessons are made available each Thursday at 8 am; participants then have a week to complete assignments, work in their groups, and participate in discussions.

Topics Include:

  • A better grasp of online learning in its varied forms: the good, the bad, the ugly
  • Familiarity with online training/collaboration tools: so many possibilities!
  • A better understanding of the technology issues surrounding online learning: how designers make decisions, when to use multimedia, choosing of graphics and interactions, the graphic user interface and navigation, and working with vendors.
  • Skill at interacting online in meaningful ways, both synchronously and asynchronously
  • Experience in working on a virtual learning team
  • A draft/outline/storyboard of an online version of your own training topic

What is required of you:

Approximately three hours per week in order to: /p>

  • Check in daily
  • Complete assigned readings
  • Visit assigned web pages
  • Participate in online discussions (asynchronous: you may participate on your own schedule)
  • Participate in one synchronous virtual classroom session for approximately two hours.
  • Complete your project (drafting an online version of a topic of your choosing)
  • Enthusiasm and good humor
  • COMMITMENT

Cost: $399 for in-state (NC) participants, $599 for out-of-state participants. Participants will also need access to Thomas Toth’s Technology for Trainers. (additional fee)
